FOCUS ON THE LOCAL COMMUNITY (GBLC)

Mentoring of High School Students in Math and Sciences, at Lee High School, Houston, Texas:

IITAGH has organized a mentoring program to teach mathematics and sciences to high school students at LeeHigh School, Beverly Hill Lane, Houston, Texas77057. Volunteers from IITAGH will be performing this task every Friday from 12:30PM to 1:30 PM in two 30 minute slots. Initial focus will be towards sophomore students, who are planning to take the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) tests this spring.

A team from IITAGH visited the high school in December 2004 and talked to an assembled group teachers. They also attended several classes in mathematics and other subjects to get a first hand experience with current teaching practices.

IITAGH has formed a team to provide necessary help to prepare the volunteer-mentors to perform this function effectively with minimum effort.
